Shipping containers Bangalow

Old dairy country turned hinterland village. Rolling green blocks, steep driveways, narrow bridges and a main street where nobody is going to be delighted about a truck parking across it for half an hour.

Contents first: the Bangalow list

Ask Bangalow callers what is going in and the answers run to storage on the small farms and lifestyle blocks that fill the hills around town, horse and agistment gear, workshop and studio conversions, storage for the trades working through the constant renovation of the older houses, market and event equipment, and household storage during builds. Know roughly how much is going in? Then the length is easy. Know how much it minds the wet? Then the grade is too.

Whatever is going in, we will name the grade on the quote, and if a cheaper one suits the load we will say so. Ask for pictures of your unit and they reach you before the truck does.

Blocks that fall away from the road

The classic Bangalow property is a few hectares of rolling green with the house near the ridge and the useful flat ground somewhere down the hill. That is a lovely block and a difficult delivery, because the truck has to stay where it has traction and the container wants to go where it does not.

There are three workable answers and we will tell you which applies. A crane truck standing at the top and reaching down, which handles a surprising amount of fall. Placement at the top of the drive rather than the bottom, which people resist until they think about how often they will actually walk to it. Or a shorter unit that can be turned and reversed down a drive a 20ft cannot use.

What does not work is deciding on the day. A driver at the top of a wet clay drive looking down at a slope is going to say no, and he will be right to.

03

Bridges, bends and the size question

The roads through this hinterland were laid out for dairy traffic and much of the alignment has not changed. One-lane bridges over the creeks, tight bends on ridge roads, and canopy that closes over in places.

For a 20ft that is rarely a problem. For a 40ft it frequently is, and the failure happens well before your gate. It is worth saying that a 40ft that cannot get there is not a cheaper mistake than the right box — two 20fts on separate pads costs a little more per cubic metre and actually arrives.

Tell us the address before you settle on a size. We would rather spend five minutes on the route than have a truck turn around at a bridge.

04

Placing it on a Bangalow block

Two things shape delivery here and neither is the property itself. The first is the roads in. The country around Bangalow is a network of narrow ridge and creek roads with tight bends, one-lane bridges and heavy canopy, and several of them will not take a rigid twelve-metre load. The second is the driveways. Old dairy country means blocks that fall away sharply from the road, and the flat ground on a Bangalow property is frequently a long way below or above where the truck can stand. A steep drive that a ute handles without thought is a genuine problem for a vehicle carrying six tonnes on the back, and turning space at the bottom is a fair question. In the village itself the main street is narrow, busy and not a place to stand a truck for long, so village deliveries want scheduling as much as they want a vehicle. Give us the address and photographs early — on this run the route usually decides the size.

Soft spots, a tight bend and something overhead are the three things that change the vehicle. Tell us about any of them and we will price the right truck. Access in detail.

Bangalow — common questions

My driveway drops steeply from the road — can you still deliver?
Usually, and normally with a crane truck standing at the top rather than a tilt-tray going down. A steep drive that a ute handles easily is a different proposition for a vehicle carrying six tonnes, particularly on clay after rain. Send photographs from the road looking down and from the flat looking back up and we will tell you which vehicle and where it can realistically place the unit.
Can a 40ft get to a property around Bangalow?
Sometimes, and the deciding factor is the road rather than your paddock — one-lane bridges and tight ridge bends stop a rigid twelve-metre load well before it reaches a gate. Give us the address early. On a lot of these blocks two 20fts on separate pads is the better plan and it is not a compromise.
Can you deliver into the village itself?
Yes, with a bit of scheduling. The main street is narrow and busy and standing a truck across it for half an hour is not something to spring on anybody. Tell us where the property is and we will pick a time and a vehicle that keeps the disruption short.
